The not very high but mighty Mt.Nuolja is located in #Abisko, #Sweden. In this time lapse sequence it looks quite small and this is due to extreme wide-angle lens. When you actually visit the area you realize it is not so small, especially when you go up on top to the @auroraskystation and look down on the small village of #AbiskoÖstra.
The sequence was shot in extreme wind! Up to 40 m/s on the of 28-02-23.
In some places there are glitches. This is due to tripod being moved by the wind.
The tripod was pushed down in the snow on the lowest most stable sitting imaginable! Legs wide apart and low to the ground…
In one of the corners you can see lens flare caused by small water droplets (rain) and illuminated by the moon.
What you think might be clouds is actually snow blowing off the Mt.#Nuolja.

#Sidensvans (Swedish (#BombycillaGarrulus) is a #bird that belongs to the order of #wagtails in the #silktail family. The species breeds in the northernmost parts of #Eurasia and northwestern #NorthAmerica. In #winter it can be observed in large #flocks further south.
In #Sweden, it breeds mainly in the #ConiferousForests of northern #Norrland, but also along the coast of #Norrbotten and #Västerbotten. It has been observed as far south as #Västmanland, #Närke, #Uppland and northern #Småland, and can even exceptionally breed there.
In #Finland, where it is very common, it has been observed throughout the country.
The silktail was first described taxonomically by #CarlVonLinné in 1758 in the tenth edition of his #SystemaNaturae. He described it as Lanius Garrulus and thus placed it in the same genus as the thornbush. Its current genus Bombycilla was described in 1808 by #LouisJeanPierreVieillot.
The #scientific genus name Bombycilla is derived from the #Latin Bombyx, meaning “silk” or “silk”, and cilla, which is Neo-Latin for “tail”. This is a direct translation of the Swedish silk tail and refers to the bird’s silky plumage. Its species epithet, garrulus, means “talkative” and refers to its appearance similarities with the nuthatch (Glandularius garrulus).

#Torneträsk or Torne träsk, Saami: Duortnosjávri Finnish and Meänkieli: Tornio or Torniojärvi, is a lake in Kiruna Municipality, #Lapland, #Norrbotten County in #Sweden, in the #Scandinavian mountain range. Träsk is the local word for lake (in Standard Swedish it means “#swamp”). It is the sixth largest lake in Sweden, with a total area of 330 square kilometres (130 square miles) and a length of 70 kilometres (43 miles). The lake drains to the south-east through Torne älv. South-west of the lake lie the Abisko National Park and the #UNESCO World Heritage Site #Laponian area.
Torneträsk originated from the remnant of a #glacier, which has given the lake its depth of 168 metres (551 feet), making it the second deepest lake in Sweden. It is usually ice-covered from December through June, with variations dependent on temperature variations.

It is always nice to try something new, something you haven’t done before. At the end of it all you always learn something, like not to put your tripod on one of those green sandboxes that we have in Sweden… Without putting on extra weight on the tripod when standing on a highly trafficked city bridge, right at the place where the bridge meets the foundation… Things shake and move quiet a bit when buses and heavy trucks pass… Don’t worry nothing went over… 😬😏😳

Permafrost is common in the land around the lake albeit this low elevation permafrost is disappearing because of global warming and increased snowfall.
During the 1944 Operation Obviate of #WWII, British bombers seeking to destroy the German battleship Tirpiz had their rendezvous over Torneträsk Lake, in violation of Swedish neutrality!!!

The sea level is rising everywhere in the world, except along the coasts of Finland and Sweden. But the sea is still rising here; it’s just that the land is rising faster!
On this image you can see what’s used to be the ocean floor. You can clearly see the lines that waves once upon a time created!
The port of the town of Lulea in northern Sweden is one of the biggest in the country when it comes to shipping goods and the biggest in terms of tons passing through. An easy and open access to the Baltic Sea is fundamental for the large iron ore industry and other industries in the area. But now it is being threatened.
“The land rise itself is creating a more shallow port,” says Henrik Vuorinen, the managing director for the port of Lulea. Vuorinen describes how the port, which was built in the mid-’70s, is getting too shallow for the larger ships that are coming into the port nowadays. “During these last 40 years, the land has risen by approximately half a meter due to the post-glacial rebound.”
This is why the town of Lulea is working on a project to deepen its port so that bigger ships will be able to freight goods through there.
Lulea is a town in northern Sweden highly affected by the post glacial uplift that has been ongoing for the past 10,000 years.
